• The Art of Living: A New Webinar Series

The Theosophical Order of Service is presenting a new webinar series called The Art of Living.

This free interactive webinar will discuss the topics of conditioning, self-love, active listening, and compassion and how these aspects of ourselves are necessary to observe in order to enhance our own sense of being in the world.

The series starts September 2 at 4 pm CST and will meet every first Sunday for the next three months.

Participation is free. To join or for more information please email us at info@theoservice.org.

  • What Does Helping Others Mean to You?

The TOS wants to know “What does helping others mean to you?” Not your definition, but why do you help others? What makes you volunteer? How has it changed your life?

We are hoping to collect videos of people answering these questions. But if you feel shy about being on a video (camera phones are great and easy…hint hint!), we welcome you to send us an audio recording of what helping others means to you. If you send us either a video or audio, please also send us permission to use it as part of our outreach. We are intending to put together various clips as an introduction to the TOS to be used in lodges and study groups.

    We thank you in advance!

  • What Inspires You?

What Inspires You? is a series of four webinars in which the Theosophical Order of Service in America (TOSA) explores what inspires and helps strengthen our practice of service. The format is an inspiring five-minute video screening followed by a short discussion among participants.

  • The Dangers of Plastic

Members of the Salt Lake City Theosophical Society displayed the devastating effect of plastic pollution on the oceans, animal life, and humanity at the University of Utah. Members set up a massive display and spent hours talking to community member of all ages. According to one man, the display provided “a profound, realistic picture that forces us to look at our choices, and the consequences of that choice.”

Po’Shines de la Soul: A Portland (Oregon) Lodge TOS Action Project

By Linda Phleps, TOS Liaison

On August 10, eight of us dined at Po’Shines de la Soul, a black-owned soul food restaurant with a Cajun flavor in North Portland.  It’s a small place with big windows on two sides, large overhead silver pipes and several golden chandeliers. On the walls are paintings and photos of African-American life, including a large picture of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. laughing together.  There’s a giant gum ball machine near one window and a diverse mix of people eating or coming in to buy pastries. Our Most Holy Mission

With the unrest in the nation lately, many of us who are members of the Theosophical Society and who practice Theosophy as a way of life are quite fortunate. Theosophy gives us a wider lens in which to observe the unfolding of something that we realize does not just reside outside of ourselves, but is within us as well: “As within, so without.” The teachings of Theosophy provide a guideline as to “why” things may be happening and that, no matter what, the most important thing is to keep universal brotherhood first and foremost in our awareness. What we do to another, we do to ourselves. Read more about Our Most Holy Mission

Changes on the Horizon

Ananya Sri Ram Rajan

Happy spring!

It is said that change is inevitable. We see this with the weather patterns, in technology, with what is “in” and what is “out,” and we see it in society as a whole. In the US we are facing changes in our governmental administration and what it decides to focus upon. The possible decrease in funding for the environment, healthcare, social welfare, education, and other areas means that even greater stress will be placed on non-profits (NPOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), who will be left to figure out how to best help those who are in need. This puts the TOS in a unique position. Read more about Changes on the Horizon
