Southern Tier Trees for Veterans Project
General Topics:
This is a Veteran benefit support project which is opening in the Southern Tier area, presented by the Susquehanna Study Group of the Theosophical Society in America.
The Trees for Veterans Program allows you to honor a particular Veteran with a tree planted in the Southern Tier area, while raising much-needed money for local Veteran groups and programs. This is an official Theosophical Order of Service, USA, project. Donations are collected by TOS-USA and are fully tax-deductible.
The "Southern Tier" in this case refers to the Triple Cities area which includes Binghamton, Johnson City, and Endicott, as well as surrounding rural towns and villages within Broome, Chenango, and Tioga counties. Where possible, areas in northern Pennsylvania, near the Triple Cities are included. Trees planted in honor of Veterans will be planted in parks and other public lands of your choice (if possible) in this area. All plantings are subject to the rules and regulations of each park or public land.
Of course, it is not necessary that "your" veteran be from the Southern Tier in order to honor him or her in this way. You can also choose not to name a particular veteran.
All donations in excess of the cost of the trees will be given to one of the following New York State veterans support groups (which you may choose on the order form):
- The Veteran Center – Henry Street, Binghamton, NY
- Local Chapter of Veterans for Peace
- Southern Tier Veterans Support Group
- Scholarships for Soldier’s Heart Program
- Local Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.
