  • What Does Helping Others Mean to You?

The TOS wants to know “What does helping others mean to you?” Not your definition, but why do you help others? What makes you volunteer? How has it changed your life?

We are hoping to collect videos of people answering these questions. But if you feel shy about being on a video (camera phones are great and easy…hint hint!), we welcome you to send us an audio recording of what helping others means to you. If you send us either a video or audio, please also send us permission to use it as part of our outreach. We are intending to put together various clips as an introduction to the TOS to be used in lodges and study groups.

    We thank you in advance!

Earth Day 2017

The Magic Within

In the movie Nanny McPhee, Emma Thompson plays a rather unattractive, almost scary, looking nanny who comes to care for seven unruly children. When she arrives and finds she is unwelcomed by them (they in fact tell her to leave), she quietly informs them, "When you need me, but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me, but no longer need me, then I have to go." Using her magical powers, she eventually gets the children to behave. The oldest child, who is the most unruly and stubborn of all, is Simon. His understanding of the lessons he needs to learn come a bit slower because his anger gets in his own way. But eventually he too softens, becoming more congenial and gentle. Read more about The Magic Within

Has Your Community Signed the Charter for Compassion?

With the latest developments happening in our country, there seems to be a greater need for compassion. Like the motto of the TOS, “A union of those who love, in the service of all that suffers,” the Charter for Compassion calls upon all of us to live by certain principles that promote a compassionate lifestyle. Through our thoughts, words, and actions, we can change our environment one person at a time. But it must begin with ourselves first.
