  • What Does Helping Others Mean to You?

The TOS wants to know “What does helping others mean to you?” Not your definition, but why do you help others? What makes you volunteer? How has it changed your life?

We are hoping to collect videos of people answering these questions. But if you feel shy about being on a video (camera phones are great and easy…hint hint!), we welcome you to send us an audio recording of what helping others means to you. If you send us either a video or audio, please also send us permission to use it as part of our outreach. We are intending to put together various clips as an introduction to the TOS to be used in lodges and study groups.

    We thank you in advance!

Our Most Holy Mission

With the unrest in the nation lately, many of us who are members of the Theosophical Society and who practice Theosophy as a way of life are quite fortunate. Theosophy gives us a wider lens in which to observe the unfolding of something that we realize does not just reside outside of ourselves, but is within us as well: “As within, so without.” The teachings of Theosophy provide a guideline as to “why” things may be happening and that, no matter what, the most important thing is to keep universal brotherhood first and foremost in our awareness. What we do to another, we do to ourselves. Read more about Our Most Holy Mission

Changes on the Horizon

Ananya Sri Ram Rajan

Happy spring!

It is said that change is inevitable. We see this with the weather patterns, in technology, with what is “in” and what is “out,” and we see it in society as a whole. In the US we are facing changes in our governmental administration and what it decides to focus upon. The possible decrease in funding for the environment, healthcare, social welfare, education, and other areas means that even greater stress will be placed on non-profits (NPOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), who will be left to figure out how to best help those who are in need. This puts the TOS in a unique position. Read more about Changes on the Horizon

Meet Kristina Iron Cloud

For the last five years, the Theosophical Order of Service has awarded scholarships to six nursing students from the Oglala Lakota College Nursing Program. The college serves the Pine Ridge Reservation which is situated in one of the poorest counties in the US. Many of the students awarded scholarships in the past have driven over 100 miles to be able to attend classes while working a full time job and having to care for a family.  This year's recipient is Kristina Iron Cloud. Here is Kristina's letter of thanks. Read more about Meet Kristina Iron Cloud
