Non-Violence Work through NonviolenceWorks!

The TOS would like to make its members aware of the work of the organization “Nonviolence Works! https://nonviolence.works. NonviolenceWorks! is a “collective of peace activist from progressive, spiritual, and interfaith communities in the New York City area.”

Started in 2020 by TSA member Deb Lee and Sander Hicks from New York and Priya Kaul from Uttar Pradesh, India, the organization recently had its second international conference on October 2, the official International Day of Nonviolence recognized by the UN. Speakers included activists such as George Lakey, William F. Pepper, Esq., Bill Leicht, and Alexa Aviles. The Theosophy as a way to peace was represented by Juliana Cesano. [node:read-more:link]

TOS Endorses Back from the Brink

The Theosophical Order of Service has taken a major step through its endorsement of the Back From The Brink campaign. Back from the Brink: The Call to Prevent Nuclear War is “a national grassroots campaign seeking the abolition of nuclear weapons and fundamental change in U.S. nuclear weapons policy.” The organization was conceived and initiated by the Union of Concerned Scientists and Physicians for Social Responsibility in the fall of 2017. It is a collaborative effort, designed to not be owned by any single individual or organization, but is partnered with many other like-minded organizations of which the Theosophical Order of Service is now among.  [node:read-more:link]

Speaking of Peace

Did you know that according to visionofhumanity.org, violence costs the world $14 trillion dollars annually? It is difficult to comprehend such a sum of money except to know that it is large and that such a sum could benefit a number of poor people around the world.  Such funds could create schools, build sustainable infrastructure, enhance healthcare, and provide countries with the wealth needed for disaster relief.

In reality, when looking at the world’s problems with regard to violence, it isn’t the world that is the problem. It’s the people. Among the population of people, there is not one population that is the culprit, it’s all of us. Violence lives in every one of us. Even Gandhi admitted that he had little patience for his illiterate wife whom it has been said he abused. Being aware that we are violent, truly aware, can create a change in us, as Krishnamurti states. The question is, can we accept that we are violent? [node:read-more:link]
