When you think of the homeless who do you see? Most of us envision a middle aged man who is either an alcoholic or mentally challenged. Or, perhaps a woman of indeterminate age pushing a grocery cart filled with bags of who knows what. But did you know that most homeless are families? In fact, sixty percent of the homeless are children. This fact I learned while working at Human Solutions, a nonprofit in Portland, OR that helps families prevent homelessness and helps to house those who are already homeless. I retired from Human Solutions in 2009, but still serve on its finance committee. [node:read-more:link]

Colin Campbell, PhD, and documentary DVD's, Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, and Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home. These resources address three fundamental but closely related issues: human health, sustainability for life on the planet as we know it, and human stewardship in the form of reverence for life. Hutoxy Contractor

We say goodbye to Hutoxy (pronounced Hutsy) Contractor, 79, a stalwart member of the TOS. Hutsy had a B.A. in sociology and anthropology. She and her husband Dinshaw, originally from India, were married in 1958 and continued their ancestral Zoroastrian faith in the United States where they raised five children. Hutsy is survived by her husband, Dinshaw and four children, Rashna, Yasmin, Yazdi and Arnavaz. Sadly, their fifth child, Shernaz died in an accident 1985. [node:read-more:link]
