The Cooperative Spirit and its Many Manifestations

The United Nations General Assembly in Resolution A/RES/64/136 has designated 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives in order to highlight the large role that cooperatives can play in ecologically-sound development and poverty reduction.  As Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said “Cooperatives are a reminder to the international community that it is possible to pursue both economic viability and social responsibility.” [node:read-more:link]

Update on Project LIGHT Rwanda--Skyping!

In a previous post, I wrote about the trauma-healing and humanitarian work being done by Lori Leyden, Ph.D., with young people ages 15-25 in Rwanda who were orphaned by the 1994 genocide.  Lori's efforts, as I reported in my first post, have been enormously successful in dramatically reducing trauma outbreaks in an overcrowded orphanage.   More about Lori's work and vision at: www.ProjectLightRwanda.com [node:read-more:link]

Everyone has heard the much-honored quote from Mahatma Ghandi, to “be the change you want to see in the world.”  Self-initiated transformation from deep within oneself is at the heart of theosophical teachings, and this process is being put into action where it’s probably more desperately needed than anyplace else on earth—Rwanda.
