However, education that helps a child to have a healthy loving relationship with themselves and the world around them, in other words, a theosophical education, can do nothing but change the world for the better. How Not to Die: Book Giveaway

The saying “health is wealth” cannot ring truer when the cost of healthcare in the US is often unaffordable for many Americans. According to the findings of the Commonwealth Fund ACA Tracking Survey (www.commonwealthfund.org), “the uninsured rates among lower-income adults rose from 20.9 percent in 2016 to 25.7 percent in March 2018.” When people do not have insurance, medical needs are often unmet sometimes putting their own health in greater danger. SNC 2018 Service Projects

As was mentioned in our last newsletter, way back in April (a lifetime ago!), the TS and TOS had decided to collaborate on a half day of service. Participants were allowed to choose from four different projects: a world peace meditation, working in the peace garden, bagging groceries at the Humanitarian Service Project, or packaging socks and underwear for homeless men, women, and children. Needless to say, many members took up the effort to serve, choosing one of the events. The photos below can give you an idea of how the day went. Read more about SNC 2018 Service Projects

Summer National Convention 2018

April 28, 2018

This year the TOS and TSA will be sponsoring a half day of service as part of the Summer National Convention program. Participants will be able to choose from one of several different service projects: helping in the garden, preparing groceries at the nearby Humanitarian Service Project, packing items for Notes to a Friend that will be distributed to nearby homeless shelters, or participating in a world meditation.  Read more about Summer National Convention 2018

A Month Of Kindness

In October 2017, the TOS ran a “Campaign for Kindness” in which members were invited to perform extra little (or big) acts of kindness. The results are in, and they’re awesome:

1. I rescued two worms that had washed onto the sidewalk after a heavy rain. Had they stayed on the sidewalk in the sun, they would have baked to death. I put them back in the grass—within a few seconds, they had wriggled to the ground and began burrowing into the dirt.
2. I carried a heavy box for a pregnant coworker and loaded it into her car. Read more about A Month Of Kindness

Since its inception fifteen years ago, the Golden Link College (GLC) has provided quality education to disadvantaged children. In an environment that encourages theosophical principles such as no discrimination of any kind, peace, harmony, compassion, and a sense of well-being, children (and the adults who teach the children and work at the school) become “socially responsible, morally upright, and spiritually sensitive individuals.” These are qualities many children do not receive in regular educational settings which is what makes the Golden Link College such a rare gem. Healing Veterans Retreat

Note: this event has past.

Event Information
An estimated 35% of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as do countless American veterans from previous wars. Over 58,000 American service people died in the Viet Nam war, over 100,000 have since committed suicide. Sadly, such problems will continue as veterans return from Iraq and Afghanistan.

As many who have sought help can testify, standard therapeutic techniques frequently do not work.

The Theosophical Order of service is the service arm of the Theosophical Society. It was founded by Dr. Annie Besant, the second International President, in February 1908. So, as you can see, the T.O.S. is in its hundredth year of existence. The year beginning February 2007 to February 2008 has officially been designated as the Centenary Year of the T.O.S.

This all day event, co-sponsored by the Theosophical Order of Service and the Science of Spirituality, brings together leaders in the interfaith field. Using panel discussions, break out groups, and meditation, we will explore the multifaceted role of service in our lives.

What's the best theme for this site?

Did you know that Drupal, the community website engine that powers this site, can "dress" the pages in a wide variety of so-called "themes"?

Of the many themes available, I chose the one called "Danger4K" as the default for this website.  However, there is an alternate theme that is also very nice for the TOS-USA site.  It is called "Garland."  The Garland colors might combine better with the TOS emblem.
